PCA 2014: Team Argentina and a busy BarberoALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

Today is a hectic day for Team PokerStars Pro Nacho Barbero. Not only is he playing a $1,000 No Limit Hold'em side event (and, thanks to winning a massive pot with pocket aces moments ago, he's playing it pretty darn well), but Barbero's also the coach of this year's Team Argentina in the Americas Cup.

About 20 paces behind him, the team are duking it out with other hopefuls from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru for a share of $100,000. He's eager to hear how they're getting on, but he's definitely not worried about their chances.

"They know what they're doing," says Barbero "I don't know about the rest but I'm pretty sure we have the best team by far."

So while the players in today's $1,000 tournament took a break to stretch their legs, Barbero and his snazzy blue and white Argentina top made their way over to watch the team in action. We grabbed a quick word to see how he and they are getting on.

Barbero sharing his wisdom before play started today

What's it like being a coach today?

"I'm enjoying it actually. I'm sitting out of my tournament all the time to go back and forth and see how they're getting on. I'm very proud of course. Any time you get to represent Argentina you've got to be proud."

Can you tell us anything about your team?

"I coached the Argentinian team like two years ago and a couple of the players didn't quite know what they were doing. It's a bit hard to teach a guy how to play poker in one night. But these guys all know."

What makes you say that?

"Ivan Raich got heads up on the last LAPT final table, and they've all been winning a lot of tournaments in Argentina. We have a really good chance."

pca2014.acp. team argentina-2014-3.jpg

Team Argentina: this year's hot favorites (according to Barbero)

Not that it sounds like they need it, but did you give out any tips before play started?

"I just told that in the beginning, please, I don't want to see you guys busting. If they get aces or kings I told them not to fall in love with their hand and go for pots they shouldn't."

Has the advice worked?

"I went over to watch one hand and the flop came like A-4-5 and he got check-raised on the flop. He had kings and he just called. Turn was a two, his opponent checked, and he checked back. That's what you want to see. There's no need to put yourself in a messy spot, especially when you get more points the longer you last in this format. You should protect your hand in the beginning and play small ball. But these guys don't need my help too much."

There's $32,500 up for grabs for the winning team. Are they nervous?

"They were super calm. They're all experienced live players and grinders. They looked confident."

What's more important to you: winning the $1,000 or seeing Argentina claim the top prize?

"Seeing Argentina win, obviously."

New Jersey Bets Big on Sports Gambling, Loses - So Far...ALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

Published on May 5, 2014 by Bob Hartman

The Associated Press reported on Sunday that the state of New Jersey has spent more than $2.8 million in attorney fees since Governor Chris Christie was forced to defend his initiative to issue sports gambling licenses.

The four major sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL), along with the NCAA filed a lawsuit against the state in 2012 demanding Christie's initiative was illegal according to the 1992 Professional & Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which says all sports gambling is illegal other than in states that already offer spots gambling to their visitors.

New Jersey, and thus Christie, have lost every step of the battle in court so far. However, that might have been the plan all along. This month the Supreme Court is expected to decide if they will hear the case.

Oddly, in political spheres, the news is not that the Supreme Court will be deciding to hear the case this month. Rather, the news, according to ABC News, is that the state is wasting more money than necessary at a time when they have an $800 million deficit.

An even more controversial point is that the firm the state is paying is the same firm Christie hired to investigate the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal.

Because of the current political tension surrounding Christie, the governor's political future might depend on the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling.

"If, by some long shot, the Court takes up the case," said Michael Enhowsen, analyst for CGW, "and if, by an even longer shot, the Court rules in favor of Christie, the state will make up that $2.8 in a couple months of legal sports gambling in the state and Christie will be a hero again."

The illegal sports gambling market in New Jersey is currently estimated to be worth $20 billion. If legalized the market is expected to quadruple the size of the Las Vegas market and some estimates expect New Jersey to garner $100 million in revenue yearly.

According to Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill, which owns and operates over 100 sportsbooks in Las Vegas, this was always for the Supreme Court to decide. Though, whether the Supreme Court takes it up or not, whether they overturn PAPSA or not, the future of America, he believes, will be a country where anyone will be able to bet from anywhere.

Online Poker Bill Blocked by Would-Be Kennedy ReplacementALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

The attorney general of Massachusetts prevented an intrastate online poker bill from advancing to the ballot and declared online gambling in all forms illegal in the state, just as she swore running for US Senate wouldn't influence her job.

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, who has used an anti-gambling stance to enhance public awareness of her, refused to allow state residents to vote on creating regulated intrastate online poker. Coakley told the Poker Players Alliance a measure to allow poker players to play online as long as both server and bettor were in Massachusetts wasn't written in proper form to be included on the fall ballot.

Coakley announced this week she would run for the US Senate seat vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy. Immediately she had to field questions about her ability to continue as Attorney General while campaigning, but insisted her political ambition would not affect her performance as AG.

“I will stay involved,” Coakley told the Boston Herald. "I have been and will remain involved in the major decisions in the office.”

While Coakley asserted her attention to tasks at hand, it was uncertain whether critics had thought she would neglect her job, or whether they had meant she now has political implications lying on legal decisions such as reviewing the online poker initiative.

Coakley told poker advocates that the wording of the bill left in question whether Massachusetts would be able to legally force the payment of a suggested five percent tax on Internet poker deposits.

Despite the presence of no state law against Internet gambling, Coakley's office states on its website that all online gambling is illegal.

ANZPT7 Melbourne Day 2: Bubble looms as Psaros shoots aheadALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

We're approaching the money now.

Today has seen hours of fast paced action with players flying out the doors but as the bubble looms play seems to have slowed down significantly. There are only 63 places paid in this ANZPT Melbourne Main Event and everyone seems desperate to lock up that $3,200.

Last season's ANZPT Melbourne bubble was a brutal affair. It's natural that players tighten up as a return on their dividends is only one elimination away, but Mike Fraser had the one hand you can't throw in the muck.

He moved all in with A♣A♠ and was in great shape to double up after Michael Chrisanthopoulos called it off with A♥Q♥. The flop brought the 8♦J♠T♦ and with it came imminent danger. Chrisanthopoulos had improved to a double-gutter, needing to find a king or nine to burst the bubble. The 6♦ turn didn't help but the K♠ river completed Broadway and saw Fraser bust with aces one shy of a payday.

michael_chrisanthopoulos.jpg

Last year's bubble popper Michael Chrisanthopoulos

The last ANZPT event in Sydney, much as today likely will, saw the bubble pop on the final hand of Day 2. That time it was Sean Lannon falling short after losing a flip with A♠T♥ against the pocket deuces of an opponent in the big blind.

One player who looks in no danger of bubbling today is the winner of that very event, Jim Psaros. The Season 7 ANZPT Sydney champion started today with 57,800 in chips but has but has gone on a tear this afternoon. He now looks like our overwhelming chip leader with a whopping 340,800 in front of him. No player has even won two ANZPT Main Event titles so a back-to-back victory would be an amazing achievement.

jim psaros.jpg

Current chip leader and ANZPT Sydney Champ Jim Psaros

Also having a great Day 2 is start-of-day chip leader Hyeong Wook Choi. He began the action with 131,100 in chips and has run it up even further to 295,000 now to maintain one of the top spots. Unfortunately for the chip boss from Day 1A, Min Jae Park, the same can't be said. He found the exit during Level 12 and won't be seeing a return on his investment.

We'll see who else falls short with only around 85 players remaining now and 63 spots paying. Who will be this stop's bubble boy or girl? Stay with us as all the action unfolds to find out!

All-Star Showdown: Dan "w00ki3z." Cates defeats Alexander "Sussie Smith" Roumeliotis, advances to semifinalsALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

ps_news_thn.jpgTwenty-one months ago, Dan "w00ki3z." Cates got his first taste of a four-table high-stakes showdown on PokerStars. Playing against Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, Cates lost over $51,000 to the King of Swing in one of the first SuperStar Showdown matches, but certainly not his taste for action. Hungry for more, Cates was one of the first in line for the All-Star Showdown and his quarterfinal draw gave him a new Swede to contend with. After a rough 2012 at the online tables, high-stakes grinder Alexander "Sussie Smith" Roumeliotis is on a big upswing in the last couple of months, winning over $300,000 in NLHE cash games and another $107,000 for his runner-up finish in the €5,000 High Roller event at the EPT San Remo. Roumeliotis hoped to parlay that run-good into a win tonight, but after nine hours, thirty-eight minutes, and 3,294 hands, Cates put away his opponent and punched his ticket to the semifinals following an intense, swingy heads-up bout.

Dan "w00ki3z." Cates heads to Saturday's semi-final

HOUR ONE (HANDS 1-400): Cates strong out of the gate

There was no "feeling out" period, no small-pot warmup for these two. Not only have they faced each other in cash games umpteen times before, but Cates made two big hands straight away. After check-raising the flop and betting the turn, Cates shipped the river with a set of threes on a Q♠8♥3♣A♠6♣ board within the first minute of play. Roumeliotis looked him up with Q♦T♣ and was relieved of his first $10,000. Minutes later, Cates and Roumeliotis got their stacks in preflop, Cates' Q♣Q♦ holding against Roumeliotis' J♦J♠. Although he was in the hole for two buy-ins so early, Roumeliotis sustained himself with medium-sized pots and even pulled out to a slight lead. Cates, however, wiped out Roumeliotis' gains in a single hand. All the money went in on a J♣9♥7♥ flop and although Roumeliotis' flush came in on the turn, Cates backdoored a full house on the river.

38 hands: Cates +$14,200
115 hands: Cates +$10,587
151 hands: Cates +$337
186 hands: Roumeliotis +$10,133
300 hands: Roumeliotis +$11,063
331 hands: Roumeliotis +$1,863
374 hands: Cates +$3,187
400 hands: Cates +$8,687

HOUR TWO (HANDS 400-818): Roumeliotis rebounds, takes $20k lead

The first hand back from the hourly break saw Roumeliotis four-bet his 9♠9♥ preflop, then hit middle set on a A♣9♣5♦ flop. Cates check-called $1,400 on the flop, then checked the Q♦ on the turn. Roumeliotis craftily checked behind. Cates led out for $5,400 when the 5♠ came on the river, Roumeliotis shoved for $9,150 and Cates looked him up with A♦J♣, his aces up no good in the $25,200 pot. Roumeliotis moved out to an $11,463 lead by Hand 504 and doubled his profits when had called Cates on the flop and turn with second pair, only to river his gutshot for a queen-high straight. Cates shoved the river and Roumeliotis snap-called, winning the $28k pot.

Roumeliotis widened his lead to $27,150 before Cates regained momentum. Holding 6♥7♥ on a 5♦4♦3♣2♣2♦ board, Cates flopped the nut straight, but Roumeliotis turned a wheel, enough to get him to showdown in the $12,200 pot. Moments later, Roumeliotis three-bet shoved on a 7♦5♥3♦ flop holding a double-gutter with A♦4♣. Cates called with K♦T♦ only to spike a king on the turn and wrest away the $20,000 pot. Meanwhile over on Table 4, Cates' 9♣T♠ rivered a jack-high straight on a A♣8♥T♦7♠J♠ board, the river jack making Roumeliotis a set with J♦J♥.

With 725 hands in the books, Cates was back out to a slight lead, but before the hour was up, Roumeliotis was once again ahead of his foe by two buy-ins. His two pair was good for one of them, Cates hero-calling the river with only A-Q high:

428 hands: Roumeliotis +$2,513
452 hands: Roumeliotis +$8,913
504 hands: Roumeliotis +$11,463
517 hands: Roumeliotis +$22,850
553 hands: Roumeliotis +$15,700
600 hands: Roumeliotis +$23,450
651 hands: Roumeliotis +$27,150
672 hands: Roumeliotis +$19,000
689 hands: Roumeliotis +$2,750
726 hands: Cates +$1,200
763 hands: Roumeliotis +$17,300
793 hands: Roumeliotis +$30,600
817 hands: Roumeliotis +$20,050

HOUR THREE (HANDS 818-1,222): Cates takes control

Cates came back with a vengeance in the third hour, winning six buy-ins to take control of the match. After eroding Roumeliotis' lead to $12,800, Cates erased it entirely when he turned two pair and picked off a river bluff. After both players checked a T♠9♦3♦ flop, Roumeliotis led out for $1,850 when the 6♣ hit the turn. Cates raised to $4,100 and Roumeliotis called. The river fell the Q♦ and Cates quickly called Roumeliotis' $8,750 shove, turning over 6♥T♣ for two pair. Roumeliotis' double-gutshot with 5♥7♣ failed to come in and Cates raked in the $28,500 pot.

At the end of the hour, Cates went on a huge rush, picking up nearly $40,000 in the space of 42 hands. Cates got three streets of value out of aces up, saw his pocket kings hold against pocket jacks, successfully 7-bet shoved Roumeliotis off his hand preflop, and snagged this $38,400 pot when a fortuitous turn card made Cates the nut straight and gave Roumeliotis just enough to continue with:

By the time the next break arrived, Cates was out to a $39,927 lead, having picked up $59,377 in the third hour of play.

837 hands: Roumeliotis +$26,600
885 hands: Roumeliotis +$25,050
925 hands: Roumeliotis +$12,800
947 hands: Cates +$250
995 hands: Roumeliotis +$250
1,068 hands: Cates +$8,700
1,103 hands: Roumeliotis +$6,623
1,145 hands: Cates +$33,527
1,201 hands: Cates +$34,327
1,222 hands: Cates +$39,927

HOUR FOUR (HANDS 1,222-1,604): Roumeliotis halves Cates' lead

Cates widened his lead even further, picking up another $12,000 before a wave of good luck lifted Roumeliotis. The Swede picked up a $20,000 pot when his A♣J♣ rivered an ace against Cates' J♥J♦, then snagged another buy-in when his 6♣7♠ hit a 7♣7♥6♥ flop against Cates' A♠7♦. Cates stopped the bleeding when his pocket jacks held against A♣K♥ for a $21,800 pot, but Roumeliotis continued to hack away, reducing Cates' lead by more than half before the next break. A nice chunk came from this pot, when Cates put Roumeliotis to the test with a river shove, but his story didn't add up and Roumeliotis found a call with third pair:

1,368 hands: Cates +$48,827
1,396 hands: Cates +$51,077
1,501 hands: Cates +$52,027
1,547 hands: Cates +$43,677
1,604 hands: Cates +$24,927

HOUR FIVE (HANDS 1,605-2,019): Spring forward, fall back

Cates hit another rush in the fifth hour, expanding his lead by $40,000 over the course of 200 hands. In a genuine cooler of a hand, Cates and Roumeliotis got their money in on a Q♦4♠3♣9♥ board. Roumeliotis had turned two pair, fours and nines, but Cates had him on the flop with a set of fours. Moments later, Cates picked up another buy-in-- his 6♦8♦ turned a straight with a flush redraw, but a river ace made Roumeliotis top pair with A♠Q♥ and he couldn't let go of it when Cates shoved.

After Cates pulled in a $9,200 pot when his 8♣8♥ held against A♦9♥, Roumeliotis' stack on Table 1 failed to top up from the $6,692 he had left at the end of the hand. Since Roumeliotis was down to about $33k and his entire match bankroll was in play, Table 1 was briefly shut down. It reopened when Roumeliotis ground his Table 4 stack up to $20,000, enabling it to be split. Action was paused and both players' stacks were reset to $10k apiece on all four tables. This move definitely benefitted Roumeliotis, as Cates was unable to continue wielding the $44k stack he'd built on Table 4 and the $40k one he was forced to abandon on Table 1.

Perhaps it was the psychological benefit of even stacks, perhaps it was some old-fashioned run-good, but as soon as action restarted, Roumeliotis made a comeback, erasing Cates' gains just as quickly as he made them. Within 200 hands, the stacks were nearly back to where they started at the top of the hour, with Cates sitting on a $26,658 lead, a gain of only $1,731 over the last sixty minutes.

1,646 hands: Cates +$28,777
1,751 hands: Cates +$56,758
1,773 hands: Cates +$66,608
1,802 hands: Cates +$65,358
1,857 hands: Cates +$49,358
1,940 hands: Cates +$31,058
1,988 hands: Cates +$24,708
2,019 hands: Cates +$26,658

HOUR SIX (HANDS 2,020-2,422): Hold steady

Cates held relatively steady over the next 400 hands. Although Roumeliotis scored a couple of double-ups, cutting his lead to around $15,000, Cates quickly answered and regained his lost chips. Cates' lead was back up to $38,000 when this $25k pot unfolded, Roumeliotis correctly reading Cates' river shove as a bluff:

2,075 hands: Cates +$36,558
2,155 hands: Cates +$33,458
2,176 hands: Cates +$16,458
2,241 hands: Cates +$30,358
2,300 hands: Cates +$38,258
2,359 hands: Cates +$23,808
2,395 hands: Cates +$20,358
2,399 hands: Cates +$14,158
2,422 hands: Cates +$20,858

HOUR SEVEN (HANDS 2,423-2,786): Cates climbs

Fresh from an extended break, Cates snapped to it in hour seven, immediately picking off Roumeliotis' turn bluff on a A♥8♣T♠5♠ board. Cates led out for $2,600 with A♣J♦, Roumeliotis shoved for $6,200 and Cates called with top pair, only to be shown Q♦J♥ for a gutshot. Roumeliotis blanked on the river with the 7♣ and Cates dragged the $21,600 pot. Two minutes later, Cates' K♠Q♣ flopped top pair on a dry board and he managed to get three streets of value from Roumeliotis to pick up another $13k and extend his lead to $42,108.

From there, Cates continued to chip up, his lead increasing to $64,608 by the end of the hour.

2,460 hands: Cates +$20,658
2,514 hands: Cates +$42,108
2,590 hands: Cates +$48,608
2,606 hands: Cates +$51,108
2,678 hands: Cates +$57,658
2,706 hands: Cates +$66,008
2,724 hands: Cates +$67,208
2,786 hands: Cates +$64,608

HOUR EIGHT (HANDS 2,787-3,001): Won't back down

With the blinds set to double at the 3,000-hand mark, Cates maintained control and kept the pots small. Roumeliotis was on his last $35,000-- less than two buy-ins at the $100/$200 level. Cates also made an attempt at humor only to watch it fall stunningly flat.

w00ki3z.: yo sussie
w00ki3z.: yo sussie
Sussie Smith: yes
w00ki3z.: ive got sushi
w00ki3z.: a fork
w00ki3z.: and mismatched socks
w00ki3z.: you scared?
Sussie Smith: i have no idea what you are talking about
w00ki3z.: my socks
w00ki3z.: dont match7
w00ki3z.: each other

Cates might need to work on his jokes, but his value-betting skills are in top shape. Roumeliotis made a gutsy call on the river with 9♥9♣ on a A♥5♦6♦7♣5♠ board, but found Cates lying in wait with sixes full. The hand left Roumeliotis with only $2,892 on Table 3 and it was closed a few hands later.

With a $76,708 lead and only three tables left in play, Cates really started turning the screws. Witness this hand where he shoved the river on a paired, flushing board, making it impossible for Roumeliotis to call with anything but a huge hand:

Three tables became only two as Roumeliotis' balance dipped below $20,000. And two became one when Roumeliotis five-bet shoved preflop for $7,950 with A♣J♥ and Cates called with A♥K♥. After 2,880 hands, Roumeliotis was down to his last $6,800. This far in the hole, it would be so easy to tilt-shove it away, but a determined Roumeliotis managed to win the next five pots in a row to chip up to $12,792. Another comeback was underway.

Roumeliotis kept his head down and ground his stack up to $15,000. Then $18,000. Then $20,000. Once he got up to $25,000, his stack was split and another table put back in action. Although Cates managed to make quad deuces in the first hand on the new table, Roumeliotis doubled up a few hands later when his A♠J♥ rivered a straight against Cates' A♣2♣.

A third table came back into play when Roumeliotis passed $31,000 and by the end of the hour he'd cut Cates' lead to $64,558. But after the break, they'd be coming back to play double the stakes.

2,794 hands: Cates +$65,008
2,818 hands: Cates +$76,708
2,846 hands: Cates +$81,158
2,878 hands: Cates +$85,458
2,880 hands: Cates +$93,208
2,895 hands: Cates +$91,858
2,912 hands: Cates +$87,458
2,947 hands: Cates +$82,208
2,953 hands: Cates +$74,258
2,974 hands: Cates +$61,808
3,001 hands: Cates +$64,558

HOUR NINE (HANDS 3,002-3,192): Roumeliotis on the ropes

Roumeliotis returned from break to find $20,000 of his remaining $35,442 stacked on a single $100/$200 table. After winning a couple of hands, he had enough for two buy-ins and a second table was opened. Cates, however, quickly answered, his J♥6♥ turning trip jacks and rivering quads in a $17k pot. Cates whittled Roumeliotis' stacks down to $7k and $12k respectively before they were combined on a single table.

Cates won three small pots in a row to leave Roumeliotis on $12,000. $12k became $8k when Roumeliotis folded to a $5,400 river bet and $8k became $5,500 only a few hands later. After Cates check-called Roumeliotis' $500 bet on a T♣7♥2♣ flop, he check-raised all-in when the K♣ hit the turn. Roumeliotis called with A♥T♠ for a pair of tens, Cates revealing 7♦8♣ for a pair of sevens. The 4♦ came off on the river and Roumeliotis staved off elimination with a double-up to $11,000.

As the nine-hour mark loomed, Roumeliotis had little more than half a buy-in remaining, but there was life in him yet. He ground his $11k up to $16k then managed to double up when his 4♥5♣ turned two pair and rivered a boat against Cates' pocket nines:

While that turn of events could lead a lesser player to lose his lunch, Cates remained ever-cool, and picked up a $7,200 pot on the last hand before the break to end the hour with a $73,632 lead.

3,008 hands: Cates +$64,158
3,059 hands: Cates +$62,058
3,070 hands: Cates +$72,658
3,081 hands: Cates +$74,358
3,087 hands: Cates +$87,258
3,097 hands: Cates +$92,058
3,104 hands: Cates +$88,916
3,169 hands: Cates +$86,716
3,185 hands: Cates +$67,832
3,191 hands: Cates +$73,632

HOUR TEN (HANDS 3,193-3,294): Cates closes it out

Had Cates' J♦7♦ not rivered trip sevens to crack Roumeliotis' A♣A♦, we might have been in store for a match the length of Ike Haxton and Kanu7's epic quarterfinal battle. But instead, that pot, and the next few, fell to Cates. Roumeliotis grew a little more desperate and tried to force the action, firing three barrels on a Q♦K♥5♦4♠T♥ board with 6♠7♣, but Cates called him down, his K♦4♥ having turned two pair. Cates held Roumeliotis to around $15,000 in chips before a pair of pots decided this match.

With $17,000 remaining, Roumeliotis saw a 8♥6♠2♥ flop for a min-raise. He check-called $800 on the flop, then did the same for another $2,000 when the J♦ hit the turn. The river was the 3♠ and Roumeliotis checked a third time. Cates fired $5,200 and Roumeliotis looked him up. Cates turned over T♠T♥ and his overpair was good, leaving Roumeliotis on $8,568.

All the marbles went in preflop on the next deal, Roumeliotis making the final raise with 4♠4♥. Cates practically beat him into the pot with K♣K♠ and flopped top set for good measure:

3,225 hands: Cates +$77,932
3,231 hands: Cates +$67,332
3,251 hands: Cates +$85,332
3,268 hands: Cates +$87,132
3,293 hands: Cates +$91,432
3,294 hands: Cates +$100,000

After 9 hours and 38 minutes of intense competition, Cates and Roumeliotis offered each other a simple "gg" before hopping offline. Team Online's Ike Haxton was also on the rail and offered Cates his congratulations.

Ike Haxton (TeamOnline): gg
Ike Haxton (TeamOnline): congrats dan

While Haxton's semifinal match against Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky is already set, Cates' opponent will be determined tomorrow when online legend Phil "mrsweets28" Galfond takes on cash game wizard Ben "Ben86" Tollerene. That match kicks off at 18:00 CET/13:00 EDT on Wednesday, October 31. Please do join us again for wall-to-wall coverage, here on the PokerStars Blog.

LAPT8 Uruguay: Dr. Lopez leads final 24, Mojave advancesALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

Ninety-five players --including one Scooby-Doo-- showed up for Day 2 and less than eight levels later, only 24 were left.

Leading the double dozen is Mario Lopez, who finished the day with 706,000.

Lopez, who has more than $1.4 million in live-tournament earnings, is a medical doctor when he's not winning hundreds of thousands of dollars at poker tournaments.

Mario Lopez

One of those large scores came from a victory here in the LAPT. Just last year, Lopez won LAPT7 Chile for $117,991.

But Lopez's most recent six-figure score came less than a month ago in Barcelona. There, Lopez took down the largest-ever Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event and won $451,107.

That wasn't even the first time this year Lopez won nearly $400,000. During this year's WSOP, Lopez finished 2nd in the $1,111 Little One for One Drop and earned $399,455.

Lopez started the day in the top half of the field but quickly started chipping up and took a large lead as we closed in on the bubble.

Despite missing out on a chance to knock out a few more opponents, Lopez managed to hold on to his lead and will come back tomorrow as our chip leader.

Friend of PokerStars Felipe Mojave also made it through the day and will start Day 3 with 124,000.

Felipe_Ramos_LAPTUruguay8_Day2.jpeg

Mojave made it to the tournament just in time too. He arrived on Day 1b alongside Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari after spending 30-hours in transit.

The two had a good excuse though, they had spent the previous day teaching celebrities poker in a Spanish castle.

Now Mojave will try to lead by example and win the LAPT trophy.

While Mojave doesn't have an LAPT victory on his resume, a few players in the field do. Aside from Lopez, both Patricio Rojas and Claudio Moya are former LAPT champions.

There are even a pair of LAPT second-place finishers in the field. Both Chadi Moustapha and Renata Teixeira finished 2nd in an LAPT this season and both will come back tomorrow to see if they can get another shot at the final table.

We'll find out who those final eight will be tomorrow.

Join us at noon UTC-3:00 as we play down to the LAPT8 Uruguay final table.

ANZPT7 Melbourne Day 3: Hitting the jackpotALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

The ANZPT Main Event has well and truly stolen the attention here at Crown Melbourne this week, but something else that's been the cause for commotion is the cash game royal flush jackpot.

The jackpot payout increases with every hand played and to win it a player must flop a royal flush. It may be a long shot but that just means the jackpot can creep up to huge amounts of money, and with how many hands that players see in the poker room, the jackpot is never that far away from going off.

That's exactly what we found out this week.

jackpot.jpg

As the players in the Main Event chased the $261,200 top prize, the cash game players across the floor were also after a big chunk of change themselves. The jackpot had recently ticked over the $70,000 mark and every player at the cash tables had a chance of taking it home.

The one who ultimately did though was Mark Woodhouse after he flopped a royal flush holding J♣T♣. He was on a $1/3 table where the maximum buy-in is $200 yet walked away with $73,680 in his pocket.

mark woodhouse.jpg

With the jackpot rolling back it was expected to be a while before someone would win it again. That was until only 14 hours later when Geoffrey McLachlan was able to snatch a five-figure payday.

"Would you believe..........JACKPOT!!!!! Just 14 hours after Mark W. collected over $73K, Geoffrey McLachlan from Queensland just flopped a Royal Flush and scored $16,353. Geoffrey declined a photo, however he is now signing autographs at the Vegas Bar!!" came the Facebook status from the Crown Poker page this afternoon.

Before these two both won the jackpot within the same 24-hour period, it was only nine days prior that the biggest bonus to date was awarded. Crown Poker regular Vincent 'Wonky' Wan turned his royal flush into a monstrous $104,564!

After all the recent payouts the jackpot has rolled back and now sits at around $3,000 - but with the poker room bustling and Crown announcing they're running the jackpot indefinitely - we're sure it'll climb to another huge sum soon.

While the cash players across the room try their luck at winning the jackpot, for the remaining 18 players in the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event it's back to the action. Stay with us as we follow the exciting conclusion to Day 3!

Battle of the Planets: second chance nets Mudrik the win and $12KALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino
^

Getting so close to a major tournament final table and falling on the bubble can make it seem like another shot will happen soon. But, sometimes that second shot can take months, or even years before the avatar is shown under the spotlights with the final table description inscribed on the virtual felt. Mudrik made the most of reaching the final table of tonight's Battle of the Planet $50,000 triple shootout freeroll, by collecting the full $12,000.00 first prize after missing out on the chance last year.

Team PokerStars Pro Henrique Pinho caught the wrong end of a cooler early on the first leg of the triple shootout today. With the blinds at 15/30 Pinho would raise to 90 on the cutoff as ansuz made the call from the button. [6s][3h][7c] on the flop hit both players hard enough to warrant a pot bet from ansuz and a raise to 225 from Henrique. After the [Jd] the rest of their funds were shoved in the middle as Pinho revealed a set of sixes [6c][6d]. ansuz caught a set as well showing the sevens [7s][7h]. No quads on the [Ts] river left the Portuguese pro with just 85 chips. Those would be donated two hands later as Henrique left the tournament area in 459th place.

The other Red Spade in today's freeroll took his massive amount of VIP stars to the 50/100 level but could go no further. Team Online's George "Jorj95" Lind doubled up early on the first table but found himself with just 750 chips facing a shove by the chip leader iceheart2010. Lind would decide to call the button shove from the small blind holding [Tc][7d]. iceheart2010 did not turn over much [Qd][2c] but the hand proved to be enough [Kh] [Js] [8c] [8d] [Qc] to knock Lind out in 276th place.

On to the money round with 81 players securing $195.00 UK's tom22709 would claim the first seat at the big table with $12,000.00 for the taking. Last year in May Mudrik would narrowly miss out on the final table after busting on the bubble, today was redemption time for the Ukrainian taking the second seat at the final table after defeating kill-man-Jar heads-up.

holazse would finish off petros19890 as DomBusiness and chlenupitera battled heads-up for the last seat at the final table. With the blinds up to 125/250 ante 25 DomBusiness would limp in from the button to see a [9c][5s][3c] flop. DomBusiness would bet 250 chips at it as chlenupitera made the call. [7d] on the turn and both players got excited to throw in the rest of their tournament funds. Unlucky, for DomBusiness to make a straight [4s][6d] as chlenupitera turned over the nut straight [8d][6h] as the [2c] river started up the final table below:

BOTP_122913.jpg

Seat 1: Mudrik (1500 in chips)
Seat 2: MaxBracht (1500 in chips)
Seat 3: holazse (1500 in chips)
Seat 4: chlenupitera (1500 in chips)
Seat 5: tom22709 (1500 in chips)
Seat 6: Anssi A (1500 in chips)
Seat 7: berek71 (1500 in chips)
Seat 8: gettingpwned (1500 in chips)
Seat 9: nuizizi (1500 in chips)

Hola and adios

Usually the first couple of levels contain minor pots being pushed around but tonight Mudrik and holazse had other ideas. Just six hands into the final table Mudrik and holaze would shove preflop as Mudrik was all-in turning over pocket queens [Qc][Qh] while staring down at the [Qs][As] held by holaze. A favorable two-spade flop [2s][8h][5s] flop gave holazse a sweat, but a couple of nines on the turn [9d] and river [9c] sent holaze off down to 360 chips.

Three hands later holaze would make a min-raise from middle position as chlenupitera three-bet to 120 getting calls from berek71 and holaze to see a [8d][9h][4c]. Everyone jumped into the boat as holaze shoved for 270 chips, and chlenupitera called all-in after berek71 check-raise shove. chlenupitera showed the flopped set of eights [8h][8c], holaze flopped bottom pair [5d][4d], and berek71 took the bad beat with pocket jacks [Jc][Js]. Actually, it's not a bad beat until five cards are on the board as the [2h] turn did not help but the [Jd] on the river would send both holazse (ninth place, $775.00) and chlenupitera (eighth place, $1,200.00) packing.

berek going berserk

As mentioned before, usually the final table is quiet during the starting rounds but tonight bucked that trend. Ten hands after the double knockout and still in the initial 10/20 blind level seventh place cash would be awarded. The first player to earn their final table seat, tom22709, would raise to 60 from UTG as berek71 three-bet to 160 chips. Folded back to tom22709 holding pocket queens [Qh][Qs] and wasting no time to shove 1,320 chips. Also impatient, berek71 quickly called with pocket kings [Kh][Ks]. No queens between the aces [Ah] [3d] [Jc] [9d] [As] and tom22709 was shown the door in seventh place ($1,700.00).

Got pwned

Every player, even those who with big Red Spades next to their name, has felt queasy after getting outplayed by someone, or in gamer-speak got pwned. With the blinds going up to 25/50 gettingpwned would enter a 299 chip three-bet over the min-raise of Anssi A. Anssi A was not ok with that and shoved for 1,667 chips as gettingpwned was happy to make the call all-in with pocket kings [Kh][Kc]. Anssi A turned over a mid-ace [Ah][8d] and watched the flopped straight draw miss on the [9h] [6s] [7c] [Qs] [3d] board knocking Anssi A down to 145 chips. The scraps would go to MaxBracht four hands later as Anssi A claimed $2,200.00 in sixth place.

Slinging mud

The players would come out of the fourth hourly break with big pots on their minds as Mudrik and MaxBracht would create a 3,900 chip preflop pot. Check out the results below:

RSS readers please click through to view video

MaxBracht would be all-in and behind holding [Ah][5c] against Mudrik's suited [As][9s]. Started behind and ended behind [8d] [4s] [2c] [Tc] [Kd] as the nine kicker played and MaxBracht earned $2,735.00 in fifth place.

nuizizi shakes up the table

Holding the chip lead with 5,304 chips in the 75/150 level, nuizizi would face a 1,448 chip small blind shove from gettingpwned. The gut call with [9c][Kc] proved to be a profitable one as gettingpwned turned over the lesser king [Kh][7s]. Both players would hit two pair on the [Kd] [6c] [4h] [7d] [9d] board as gettingpwned was eliminated in fourth place ($3,350.00)

Don't you worry, every little thing is gonna be alright

Watching your opponent flop that two-outer can cause some elevated stress levels to say the least. No one could blame berek71 for being a little upset after seeing the flop in this hand. With the blinds up to 75/150 Mudrik would min-raise as berek71 simply shoved for 4,836 chips holding pocket kings [Kc][Ks]. Showing similar haste, Mudrik called all-in with queens [Qc][Qh] and was happy to see another one on the flop [Qs][3s][Jh]. But, the kings would not be denied as the turn [9c] and river [Th] gave Mudrik the backdoor straight and getting back into the tournament with the 3,074 chip pot.

Going after the chip leader

nuizizi continued to lead the tournament near the end of the 75/150 blind level as berek71 down to 1,559 chips got a little pressure in the big blind. Mudrik in the small blind would shove for 4,514 chips as berek71 look at pocket sevens [7s][7d] to get back into the mix by making the call all-in. Mudrik flipped up a small suited ace [As][2s] as the board flipped up an ace as well [Kh] [5s] [Qc] [Ah] [3c] to send berek71 away with $4,500.00 in third place.

Mudrik comes away clean

A couple of mentions towards working out an ICM deal appeared in the chatbox but the players seemed determined to let the cards and chips do the talking instead. With the blinds up to 125/250 ante 25 and Mudrik leading 9,083 to nuizizi's 4,417 chips they decided to flip for the last Battle of the Planets title of 2013. Watch below as Mudrik's pocket fours [4s][4d] go up against nuizizi's [Qh][Ac]:

RSS readers please click through to view video

No aces, no queens on the [2s] [8d] [Tc] [5h] [6h] board shutdown nuizizi's run as Mudrik made the most of the second chance to win this month's Battle of the Planets triple shootout freeroll for $12,000.00!

Vegas Casino Dealers Indicted for CheatingALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

las vegasTwo former casino dealers and two friends are accused of siphoning more than $1 million off craps tables over two years, using phantom bets at a posh Las Vegas Strip resort.

James Russell Cooper Jr. and Mark William Branco were fired by the Bellagio after the scheme came to light and they were arrested in July 2014, prosecutor Jay P. Ramen said Thursday.

Cooper and Branco are named with Jeffrey D. Martin and Anthony Grant Granito in a 60-count indictment filed Wednesday. The charges include cheating at gambling and theft — felonies that could get the defendants decades in prison.

The dice game scam involved the dealers accepting late or unclear bets and paying out winnings at times when colleagues and supervisors generally weren’t aware what was happening, said James Taylor, a Nevada State Gaming Control Board deputy chief.

“Cheating is common,” Taylor told The Associated Press. “We arrest 350 to 500 people a year for cheating or theft from a casino. But to have it go this long and for this much money is unusual.”

“Fortunately, someone noticed and came forward,” he said.

Bachus Confuses Internet Cafes With Online GamblingALL COUNTRIES CAN PLAY @ ATLANTIS GOLD CASINO!
panthercasino.com sport betting and casino

The leading voice against regulated online gambling cited curious cases as reason to oppose Barney Frank's bill.

Play Now at Slots Plus Casino! During the markup to House Resolution 2267, the bill proposing online gambling regulation, opponent Spencer Bachus repeatedly referred to an article in the Orlando Sentinel as heralding the incipient dangers of Internet gaming. Bachus said the paper bemoaned the lure Internet cafes posed to children, and argued this meant accepting online casinos means subjecting kids to risk.

Bachus repeated the citation a number of times during the course of the discussion by the House Financial Services Committee, as if he had discovered a hard kernel of fact gaming proponents could not refute nor digest. But the Alabama Republican had either accidentally or deliberately muddied the water with misleading information.

Bachus said that some areas of Florida had legalized Internet gambling, which is allowed at these cafes. The facts are that the cafes do not have license to operate any form of gambling, but that they exist in a gray area of the law under the definition of "sweepstakes."

While the games played at the cafes are on computers, as part of the design to squeeze into the gray area, money is handled both in and out by the store. Therefore, failure to secure the gambling from children would fall on a land-based form of gaming, and an unregulated one to boot. If anything, Bachus' citation argues for H.R. 2267, and the need for Internet casino regulation.

For Bachus to be a driving force behind the UIGEA online gambling ban, and yet not be aware that neither has Florida passed its own Internet gambling rules nor are Internet cafes the same as online gambling, is asking for quite a suspension of disbelief. This suggests the committee's ranking member was purposely disingenuous for lack of any valid argument.

Clearly the other committee members did not see Bachus' reasoning as persuasive, as the measure passed by a 41-22 vote, advancing to the full House of Representatives.
