The most expensive casino in Maryland’s history won’t be opening by August as once planned, but it should still open by the end of 2016.

MGM’s $1.3 billion casino at National Harbor in Prince George’s County is expected to receive an extension on its opening date from the state’s gaming regulators, according to a report from The Washington Post. Though the casino hasn’t suffered any significant setbacks, unlike MGM’s new casino in Massachusetts, the original construction timeline turned out to be too optimistic, the report said.

Originally estimated to cost $800 million, the casino’s price tag now stands at $1.3 billion. MGM National Harbor will have roughly 3,600 slot machines, 140 gaming tables, a 300-suite hotel and a 3,000-seat theater. Construction on the casino began in May 2014.

In addition to delays for its projects in Maryland and Massachusetts, MGM also had to delay the opening of a $3 billion casino resort in the struggling gambling market of Macau.

MGM said that it “made the strategic decision" to move the opening of its MGM Cotai development from last this year to the end of the first quarter of 2017 “based on current market conditions and the timing of other resort openings in the area.”

The company is also vying for the OK to build a new casino in Connecticut.
