A sports bettor at a William Hill sports book at the Las Vegas Strip reportedly bet $10,000 on Team USA to overcome Australia straight-up at -10,000 odds.
The U.S. basketball team ended up winning 98-88, but they were trailing to the Australians at halftime. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Team USA pulled away. A three-pointer with about 1:30 left within the game put Team USA up 93-86.
The American basketball program has won 71 consecutive international games and is 83-1 since 2006. That loss came against Greece within the 2006 World Championships in Japan.
Despite only having the ability to win this sort of measly amount for the bet, the anonymous gambler wagered the five-figure sum that the streak wouldn’t be snapped on Wednesday.
