2016 Card Player Player of the Year Race Update -- Chance Kornuth Climbs To Seventh

Big events held in Ireland and Florida wrapped up this week, making some changes to the landscape of the 2016 Card Player Player of the Year race. Here is a look at the events that most impacted the standings over the past seven days:

2016 EPT Dublin €25,750 High Roller

Chance KornuthThe 2016 European Poker Tour Dublin €25,750 no-limit hold’em high roller was the highest buy-in poker tournament ever held on Irish soil. A total of 70 entries were made in the tournament, building a prize pool of €1,715,000 ($1,924,059 USD).

In the end Mustapha Kanit came out on top, securing the title and the first-place prize of €501,640 ($562,790 USD). Kanit was also awarded 588 Player of the Year points after taking down the largest buy-in poker tournament ever held on Irish soil. This was his second final table of the year, having placed fourth in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 buy-in super high roller in January. As a result of his high roller success he has moved into 35th place in the overall POY standings.

Kanit was not the only player to make moves on the leaderboard as a result of this event. Runner-up finisher Chance Kornuth earned €360,150 ($404,052 USD) for his third final table finish of 2016, all coming in $25,000 buy-in events that took place on three different continents.

Kornuth began with a seventh-place showing in the PCA $25,000 buy-in event and then made the trek down under to come out on top in the Aussie Millions $25,000 AUD buy-in high roller, earning $553,392 and 924 points. With this latest deep run Kornuth has climbed to seventh place in the POY rankings with 1,750 points and $1,150,224 in year-to-date earnings.

Eighth-place finisher Ivan Luca of Argentina earned €65,170 and 98 POY points at his fifth final table of 2016. He has climbed to 15th place in the standings as a result.

2016 WSOP Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club $1,675 Main Event

Mukul PahujaA total of 613 entries were made in the 2016 World Series of Poker Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club $1,675 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event building a prize pool of $919,500. In the end Mukul Pahuja emerged victorious, outlasting a stacked final table that included the like of Adam Levy, Tristan Wade and Daniel Weinman to capture his second WSOP Circuit main event gold ring and the first-place prize of $193,095.

In addition to the title and the money, Pahuja also earned 840 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his first final table of the year, but it alone was enough to move him into 36th place in the overall standings for the time being.

Adam Levy earned $122,574 and 726 POY points for his runner-up finish. This was his second final table of the year and he climbed to 44th place in the rankings as a result.
