With the new year just days away it seems like the perfect time to look back at the year that was. The biggest poker tournament each and every year for the past few decades has been the World Series of Poker main event, and 2015 was no different.

The $10,000 no-limit hold’em world championship drew a total of 6,420 players to build a total prize pool of $60,348,000.

Just over four months after the first hand was dealt in the event Joe McKeehen won the last hand, defeating Joshua Beckley heads-up to earn his first career bracelet and the $7,683,346 first-place prize.

McKeehen’s victory at this final table will have to go down in history as one of the most dominant performances ever. He entered the final table with a record 32.7 percent of the chips in play. Going into six-handed play with 47.5 percent of the chips was the second highest mark of any chip leader since main event chip counts were tracked. By the time they got down to three-handed play, McKeehen was sitting behind 66.8 percent.

While anything could happen in poker, the title never seemed to be in doubt for the soft spoken 24-year-old Pennsylvanian poker pro.
